better for everyone? What does that mean?
A few years ago I started taking fermented grain from the distillery where I worked and making treats for my dog Berto, a white-haired pit mix who’s had skin issues ever since I adopted him.
Doing this, I noticed a few things: a) he loved them, b) his skin issues decreased and his digestive system evened out, and c) the distillery manager was happy to have less grain to deal with. Plus, the main ingredient was 100% sustainably sourced.
Now those biscuits are available to dog owners across the US, but the same rules apply: better for your dog, better for the environment, better for everyone.
as distillers we know grain
All whiskey begins with grain that is mixed with water and fermented. Distilling captures the alcohol, leaving literal tons of quality fermented grain rich in fiber, pre/postbiotics, minerals, and vitamins.
It’s the most overlooked resource in the process, something distillers have no need for once a run is over. So I decided to make something from that fermented grain: dog treats.
I realized that these biscuits were better for dogs thanks to the pre/postbiotics, better for the environment since the main ingredient was 100% sustainable, and better for the distillery. So I decided not to sit on my dream but to make it a reality, thus barrel biscuits was born.
